Changes...

Life is full of changes, both good and bad.  2011 will be a huge year of changes and growth for me, which is one of the reasons I started this blog.  So far this year, I have seen a change in myself that has needed to come for a long time and I have also seen huge life changes for many of my friends.  Some of these changes were good (new babies or engagements) and some were bad (loss of loved ones).  But I think that what has been solidified for me is that change makes us who we are.  The challenges that come along with change allow us to adapt and grow.  Which brings me to one of my favorite quotes:

'Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it turned into a butterfly' ~ Anonymous

I have always loved this quote, but it seems particularly relevant to me now.  The next three months bring two of the most important experiences of my life.  First off, my first summer fieldwork where I will start treating my first patients.  And second, on August 13th, my wedding to my best friend, Clint, which feels like it's been forever in the making.  I'll talk about fieldwork first...

I started at Creighton University two years ago, without a really strong idea of what occupational therapy was and what I could do with it.  Throughout that time I have been studying with some of the most amazing people I have ever met and learning from very distinguished professors.  All to get to this point...  My first whole summer of fieldwork, acting like a real therapist and treating my own patients. And yet, I'm terrified.  Excited... but terrified.  But I know that even on that first day when I walk into the hospital and I feel like the world just might end... the experience is going to help make me who I want to be.  It's just another step in becoming a real therapist.

Then there's the wedding... it's only 101 days away now!  But there is still so much that is not done yet and it seems like my list is endless.  Everyone keeps telling me not to worry, that it will all get done... But I'm still concerned.  Good thing Clint will be taking care of some things this summer. But this is probably the most exciting change happening for me, because when I start school again next fall, I'll be Clint's wife! This is definitely one of those things that is worth all of the work you put in.  : )

Here is Clint and I at my Spring Banquet this year...
